Privacy

This is a small author website. Here is plainly what it collects and why.

The newsletter

If you sign up for my newsletter, you give me your email address (and your first name, if you choose to). The signup form is provided by Kit (kit.com), the email service I use, and Kit stores your details and sends the emails on my behalf. Kit's own privacy policy is at kit.com/privacy.

The form is loaded from Kit's servers, so Kit may use its own cookies or similar technology to make the form work. This site itself doesn't set cookies.

Free story download

The free story is a plain file download (EPUB and PDF). Downloading it doesn't ask for any information.

Hosting

This site is hosted by Cloudflare. Like most web hosts, Cloudflare processes basic technical information such as your IP address and browser type to deliver pages and protect the site. Cloudflare may also set a small security cookie to protect the site from bots. Cloudflare's privacy policy is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Analytics

To see how many people visit and which pages they read, this site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't follow you to other sites and doesn't build a profile of you. It only counts things like page views, the page you came from and your general device type. There are no advertising or social media tracking scripts here.

Who is responsible for your information

Katie Wenlow runs this site and the newsletter and decides how your information is used. You can reach me at hello@katiewenlow.com.

Why I'm allowed to use it

For the newsletter, the legal basis is your consent, which you give when you sign up and confirm. You can withdraw it anytime by unsubscribing or emailing me. Withdrawing doesn't affect emails already sent. For hosting, security and simple visitor counts, the basis is my legitimate interest in keeping a small website running safely and knowing how many people read it.

How long I keep it

I keep your email address (and first name, if you gave it) until you unsubscribe or ask me to delete it. If you sign up but never confirm, the unconfirmed details may stay in Kit until I clear them out. Visitor counts are kept as totals only.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, including the EU and the UK, you have the right to:

To use any of these rights, email me and I'll reply within one month.

Where it's stored

Kit and Cloudflare are based in the United States, so your information may be processed there. Both companies say they protect transfers from the EU and UK with recognised safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Details are in their privacy policies linked above.

Questions

Email me at hello@katiewenlow.com. If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date above.
